Reading the passage

We need the scenario that fits least well with preserving the traditional language. Refusing to teach it to the next generation would be an obvious mismatch. The choices may go another direction, so let's check each against the actual methods described.

Working the answers

  • A

Reviving oral culture fits. The final sentence allows oral preservation if the community avoids the influences that make it difficult. Writing isn't the only possible route.

  • B

This matches the teaching sequence from simpler to more complex usage. It's a method described in paragraph 2.

  • C
    Correct

This changes the language's vocabulary to make teaching easier. The methods discussed instead document the traditional language and find workable ways to represent and teach it. Importing majority-culture words is therefore the least compatible scenario.

The Utes' flexible spellings don't establish the same policy. They accept different written forms when the meanings remain clear; they aren't described as adding outside vocabulary to simplify the language. We're distinguishing how to teach and write existing forms from changing the vocabulary itself.

  • D

Finding appropriate presentation methods is expressly part of preparing the instruction. This fits the preservation effort.

  • E

Which dialect should be taught is exactly the question raised in paragraph 4. The Utes ultimately allow variation, but considering the alternatives is compatible with preservation.
