Which one of the following(7 more words not shown)

Reading the passage

We start with a recent finding about the bill's hunting function. Then we get the research: Bohringer on touch, followed by Scheich on electrical detection. Those studies complement each other. The second helps answer a question the first leaves open; it doesn't overturn the first study.

What we’re looking for

Our outline is a finding followed by the work that supports it.

Working the answers

  • A

The opening presents a conclusion biologists reached from recent findings, not merely a possibility to consider (paragraph 1). The rest supplies the studies behind that conclusion. B states that sequence more precisely than a hypothesis defended with examples.

  • B
    Correct

The conclusion is that the platypus uses its bill to locate prey underwater. The following observations and experiments explain the basis for it, including the touch response and the battery and shrimp findings.

  • C

This is a less precise description than B. The writer reports a scientific conclusion and summarizes the supporting investigations, rather than developing a thesis through a separate argumentative case.

  • D

Bohringer and Scheich don't present opposing views. They study different, compatible sensory functions.

  • E

No theory is amended. The account adds evidence and explains another function without revising the initial conclusion about using the bill to find prey.
