How does the recommender rank schools?▼
Schools are ranked using a composite score based on five factors: career outcome fit, geography match, admissions competitiveness, affordability, and school quality. These factors are weighted differently depending on your career goal. Schools where your estimated admission chance is below 5% are automatically excluded.
How do career goals affect the recommendations?▼
Career goals change how the five ranking factors are weighted. Prestige heavily weights BigLaw and clerkship placement rates. Balanced balances across firm sizes, geography, and overall employment. Minimize Debt prioritizes cost of attendance and financial value alongside employment rate.
What data powers the career outcome matching?▼
We use ABA employment outcome data that tracks where each school's graduates end up, including BigLaw, federal clerkships, government positions, public interest organizations, and other firm sizes. The data represents the most recent graduating class outcomes.
How does geography preference work?▼
You can filter by region and/or specific states. An exact state match gets the strongest boost, followed by same-region matches. Schools outside your preferred area still appear but rank lower. Leaving both blank removes the geography factor entirely.
