Reading the passage
The author values the variety these units produced. Different ideas about what theater should do led to different kinds of plays, reflecting the community's different interests. That is a strong candidate for an agreement answer.
What we’re looking for
This is still a broad question. Another supported detail could work, but we cannot invent a reason the program ended or a comparison the author never makes.
Working the answers
- A
We are told that the program lasted four years, not why it stopped. Predicting that greater popularity would have prolonged funding assumes poor attendance caused its end. The account gives us no such causal explanation.
- B
Both the Harlem Renaissance and the Negro Units are associated with a range of views about art. We never compare how polarized the two groups were. Having disagreements in both does not establish which had more.
- CCorrect
The second paragraph explicitly says the disagreements led to a varied collection of shows (paragraph 2). That is the connection we predicted: philosophical and artistic differences contributed to the variety of the units' work.
- D
Today's African American theater artists are not evaluated. There is no basis for comparing their contributions with those of the 1930s artists.
- E
Folk dramas and urban realistic dramas are two approaches producers favored. The author does not compare their popularity with audiences. Being produced and being better liked are different claims.
