Reading the passage
We need another supported claim. We have several examples of technology widening access, followed by an explanation of why businesses have an incentive to reach more customers. There's no single conclusion I need to predict here; let's check the choices against those examples and that reasoning.
Working the answers
- A
Nothing connects wider access with technologies becoming outdated. A technology could become obsolete while technology in general remains useful, but that process isn't discussed here.
- B
We aren't given a comparison of regulated and unregulated economies, much less a ranking of how quickly they equalize social status.
- CCorrect
The printing example says that, as printed materials became widely available, people without special resources could take literacy for granted in previously unimaginable numbers. That supports a historical connection between expanded access to texts and increased literacy.
- D
Both the telephone and the printing press are discussed, but their democratizing effects aren't ranked against one another.
- E
The opening allows financial profits to remain concentrated. Wider access to technological benefits doesn't establish that near equality of financial assets is a realistic goal.
