Which one of the following(32 more words not shown)
Reading the passage
My first thought is unpopular. But check whose attitude that describes: the people who would lose Internet access. The question asks for the writer's attitude. We need a word that evaluates the proposed shutdown itself.
Working the answers
- A
Benefits describes what people gain from the Internet, not the writer's assessment of banning access.
- B
Decidedly strengthens the predicted public judgment that benefits outweigh risks. It doesn't directly characterize the government measure.
- C
Unpopular predicts the public's reaction. A writer could report that a policy would be unpopular without personally considering it too harsh.
- DCorrect
Draconian means excessively harsh or severe. Calling the measure draconian directly expresses a negative judgment about cutting off access altogether.
- E
Risks identifies a possible downside of Internet use. It doesn't evaluate the hypothetical ban.
