Working the answers

  • A
    Correct

The list supports the claim that his paintings reflect the life and culture around him. It's evidence for the realism just introduced.

  • B

The examples aren't introduced to show what he's mocking. Their immediate job is to show the presence of contemporary life.

  • C

No corresponding list from abstract expressionism is supplied for comparison. The sentence is illustrating Lichtenstein's subject matter.

  • D

The sentence identifies subjects and objects, not the emotions at the heart of the work. Nostalgia and sweetness are developed afterward.

  • E

Listing the imagery doesn't itself endorse an attitude toward consumer culture. The next sentence turns to the particular way he treats that culture.
