Use the main point we've already predicted to answer this purpose question: renewable-energy projects need local involvement to succeed over the long term. What is the writer doing to establish that?

What we’re looking for

First, we get reasons to consider renewable energy. Then Brazil and India show why installing the technology isn't enough: how the project develops local capacity matters. Look for a description that includes both the promise of renewables and the lesson about making them work.

Working the answers

  • A

The opening does give reasons to use renewables. But the second half turns implementation difficulties into a claim that certain technologies cannot be profitable. Brazil's problem is how the project was pursued, not proof that solar technology cannot work profitably.

  • B
    Correct

This captures both parts: the opening presents renewable energy's advantages, and the projects illustrate what favors successful implementation. Local involvement in production as well as operation helps India build a system that can expand.

  • C

This gets the topic but misses the purpose of the examples. Brazil and India aren't merely evidence that renewable technology has benefits; they contrast approaches to implementation, including an approach that stalled.

  • D

We aren't comparing the technical benefits and drawbacks of solar and wind. The relevant contrast is how the projects develop local capacity.

  • E

Nothing establishes that wind is inherently easier to implement than solar. The explanation is about local participation, not the relative difficulty of two energy technologies.
