Reading the passage
We only have to weaken one argument in the final paragraph. Showing that conferences are more diverse could help. So could showing that cost and computer knowledge are becoming less of a barrier. I don't know which point the answer will attack, but it needs to challenge a reason the writer actually gives.
Working the answers
- A
Welcoming diversity isn't the same as having it. A group could warmly accept people from other backgrounds while its current members remain very similar. This doesn't establish the varied participation the writer says is missing.
- BCorrect
More affordable, accessible technology undercuts the claim that cost and computer knowledge exclude people along economic and educational lines. Reaching people from varied backgrounds makes that objection less convincing. We don't need to conclude that everyone has access or that every conference is now diverse; reducing this barrier weakens one argument, which is all the question asks.
- C
Bringing respectful behavior into neighborhood interactions doesn't tell us whether conferences have diverse members. Nor does it establish how much local interaction remains. Someone could be kind during fewer encounters, so this doesn't directly answer the closing concern either.
- D
Anonymity may explain why people feel comfortable, but comfort isn't the feature the writer says is missing. This doesn't challenge the access or diversity objections.
- E
More successful etiquette adds to a benefit the writer already accepts. It doesn't explain why respectful interactions within a narrow group should count as a full community.
