Reading the passage
The writer seems open to clustering as an answer. The theory may be supported by work on related goldcrests, and kinglets already flock during the day. Still, the nighttime theory is explicitly “untested.” We want a description that keeps the possibility without upgrading it to certainty.
Working the answers
- A
Almost certainly true goes beyond the evidence. We aren't told that every other possible explanation has been eliminated.
- BCorrect
Daytime flocking makes the idea feasible: kinglets already gather with one another. The nighttime proposal would bring several small groups together, because pairs or trios alone couldn't maintain the needed warmth. That's a reasonable possibility, not an established behavior.
- C
The writer doesn't call it unlikely or say it is the only option left. Both judgments are added.
- D
The goldcrest study is recent, so it has already occurred. But it concerns a related species; it doesn't establish the proposed behavior in kinglets. That is why the kinglet theory can remain untested.
- E
Nothing tells us how widely the scientific community discusses the hypothesis. Being the last explanation mentioned doesn't establish its popularity.
