Reading the passage
Paragraph 2 presents Jackson's view, connects it with other North American critics, and then contrasts it with the racial-blending approach. Jackson stresses an experience and style belonging to the ethnic group; the other critics stress a shared cultural context. We need that description-and-comparison structure, not the later paragraph's detailed attack using poems.
Working the answers
- ACorrect
Jackson's position is described and placed alongside the opposing shared-context view. The final concession about integration complicates his position without resolving the disagreement.
- B
Contradictory textual examples come in paragraph 3. Here we get competing critical views, not examples invalidating one of them.
- C
The position is explained and related to others, but this paragraph doesn't then dismiss it as untenable.
- D
Reporting a disagreement doesn't by itself demonstrate a faulty assumption. That claimed final step isn't performed here.
- E
The writer doesn't say Jackson lacks historical perspective. His approach explicitly relates themes to a history of oppression; its success is a different issue.
