Reading the passage
We need something in B that A doesn't mention. SafeSave's doorstep visits, flexible transactions, and operating costs are useful places to look. But savings and repayment incentives also appear in A, so those familiar topics won't automatically distinguish B.
Working the answers
- ACorrect
B names ways to cut operating costs: recruiting collectors from the urban poor and “full computerization.” A explains how lending and savings products work, but doesn't identify comparable measures for reducing a provider's operating expenses.
- B
A's 30 million BRI accounts directly show demand for savings. B discusses that need too, so it isn't exclusive to B.
- C
A opens with the contrast between mostly unsuccessful state banks and more successful lending organizations. B doesn't make that state-versus-private comparison. This points us toward the wrong account.
- D
A already shows the value of adding savings to loans through BRI's extraordinary success. Whatever advantage we might see in SafeSave's range of services, this isn't a subject missing from A.
- E
Grameen's group pressure and the opportunity to borrow more after repayment are explicit incentives in A. That alone rules E out: the question requires absence from A, not merely something relevant to banking.
