Reading the passage
Read the stem carefully: we're looking for approval. Merely mentioning a practice doesn't mean the author likes it. We need to check which practice the author treats as a good one to follow, rather than predict a more specific answer yet.
Working the answers
- A
Competition from synthetics causes the problem the author wants wool growers to address. We aren't given approval of that competition.
- B
The shift to other land uses is reported, but it isn't endorsed as the solution.
- C
Family farmers' willingness to accept lower returns is described. Their current practices aren't held up as the model for improving profitability.
- D
This initially sounds promising: the author wants greater efficiency. But efficiency at what stage? The final paragraph recommends moving spending away from wool processing and toward producing better or cheaper raw wool. It doesn't endorse the processing efforts as the route to follow. Those efforts exist; the distinction is where the author wants future resources directed.
- ECorrect
Paragraph two recommends adopting the successful growers' practices throughout the industry. Presenting those farms as the model is clear approval of their management practices.
