Reading the passage

We've already predicted a useful tool that needs safeguards. My broad version included both the advantages and the limitations, but the writer's final recommendation is to take practical steps against misuse.

What we’re looking for

We're looking for an answer that captures that recommendation. It doesn't have to give equal space to every paragraph.

Working the answers

  • A
    Correct

This states the need for precautions when the technology is used. It emphasizes preventing misuse more than the benefits, but that fits where the discussion leads: the final paragraph's practical recommendations.

  • B

Growth and explanatory advantages belong to the opening background. This leaves out the risks and what the writer thinks should be done about them. It cannot capture the whole discussion.

  • C

Nothing requires the most sophisticated principles of jurisprudence. The recommendations are concrete safeguards, not a claim about how sophisticated the governing legal principles must be.

  • D

Better comprehension is a benefit, but this turns the discussion into a prediction that prudent use will produce fairer trials. It misses the central call for safeguards and presents a result more confidently than the writer does.

  • E

Preventing intentional misuse would not necessarily eliminate every disadvantage. The critics also identify unintentional problems, and the proposed precautions aren't presented as a guarantee that all risks disappear.
