Reading the passage
Recall the two sides of the Konaté example. The sculptors can distinguish the styles their clients require, yet their work remains consistent in several broader features. Those claims can both be true: recognizable differences need not be large differences.
Working the answers
- A
The materials aren't described as nontraditional. Differences in the finished work's features don't establish that claim.
- BCorrect
They carve five distinguishable styles, but the differences are subtle enough that few outsiders can tell some of them apart. Their consistent proportions, composition, color and technique explain how the styles can be distinct yet very similar.
- C
Producing art distributed over a large area doesn't establish that their innovations influenced other sculptors. We aren't told that those other artists adopted the family's ideas.
- D
We aren't given a history in which the family adopted a style previously exclusive to another tribe. Making work for that tribe is not enough to establish that story.
- E
The family practices production for neighboring groups, but isn't credited with introducing the practice. Doing something and being the first to do it are different claims.
