Reading the passage
A says there has been virtually no scientific discussion of muscle memory, then offers two possible explanations. B presents a relevant experiment and a different explanation. That makes it reasonable to think A probably did not know about this research.
What we’re looking for
We have much less reason to infer agreement or disagreement about a mechanism A never addresses. Not mentioning a study is not automatically proof of ignorance, but A's description of the research landscape makes that inference especially plausible here.
Working the answers
- A
Both accept the phenomenon. We cannot rank their certainty about its existence from their different attempts to explain it.
- B
A does not discuss B's nuclei-based explanation, so we cannot assume agreement. A's willingness to consider other explanations does not tell us what it would think of this one.
- CCorrect
A calls the phenomenon puzzling, emphasizes the lack of scientific discussion, and leaves out the research B describes. Taken together, those details support probable unawareness of that research.
- D
We cannot turn silence into disagreement either. A never takes a position on the effect of nuclei on muscle strength.
- E
A says nothing about using research on one species to understand another. The fact that B discusses mice does not establish greater skepticism on A's part.
