Determining the most effective way to deter deliberate(447 more words not shown)

In the first sentence of(14 more words not shown)

Reading the passage

A planned fraud and an impulsive crime are different kinds of acts. Crimes of passion give us an example of the impulsive kind, which helps clarify the deliberate crimes under discussion. Look for that contrast's job in the opening sentence.

Working the answers

  • A

The example is impulsive, not deliberate. A puts it in the wrong category.

  • B
    Correct

The contrast helps define deliberate crime by showing what it is being distinguished from: an act committed on impulse rather than after deliberation.

  • C

Distinguishing types of crime doesn't establish that some cannot be deterred. No claim of impossibility is made here.

  • D

Both sides of the later debate concern deliberate crime. The opening contrast establishes the subject; it doesn't illustrate one side's proposed deterrence method.

  • E

The sentence classifies the crime as impulsive. It doesn't identify societal norms as its cause. The social-influence position is introduced afterward.
