Reading the passage
Again, one account's support is enough to eliminate a choice. We know drillers monitor and reuse mud, recipes differ by drilling job, and discharges are regulated. But we should check what those regulations actually require rather than add a rule that sounds sensible.
Working the answers
- A
A describes monitoring the fluid's behavior and properties. B also says companies recycle water-based mud until its properties are no longer suitable. Both support checking suitability.
- BCorrect
No requirement to disclose every ingredient is stated. A mentions secret formulations, and B describes controls on releases. Neither tells us that companies must give the government a complete ingredient list. Secrecy doesn't prove they never disclose anything to regulators; the disclosure requirement is simply unsupported.
- C
A's food and medical uses support safe human consumption in certain quantities. That limited claim doesn't say barite is harmless in every amount or mixture.
- D
A describes the drill bit cutting into rock while drilling for oil. That supports locating oil within or beneath rock, rather than merely importing general knowledge about geology.
- E
B distinguishes water-based mud for shallow parts of wells from oil-based mud for deeper drilling. That supports different recipes for those different jobs.
