Reading the passage
This question leaves the subject open. We know several things about the organizers, the support they received, and the results, but we don't yet know which fact the choices will test. Let's require a match to something stated, rather than accept a claim just because it sounds plausible in a civil rights campaign.
Working the answers
- A
CORE is named, but no other civil rights organization is identified as challenging construction hiring. Other organizations may have done so; this account doesn't establish that.
- B
The first paragraph says participation and financial support came mainly from local congregations. CORE recruited the leaders, which is a different role from providing most of the campaign's support.
- C
Attention expanded to include discrimination in the North. That doesn't mean it became primarily directed there. We aren't given the post-campaign balance of attention between North and South.
- DCorrect
The second paragraph says that many ministers “ran for political office themselves.” Seeking election is a straightforward restatement of that fact. We don't need to know whether they won.
- E
This is one of the demands the agreement did not meet: there was no commitment to a specific numerical increase in jobs. Don't confuse the government's promise to enforce existing laws with a union promise to meet hiring targets.
