Which one of the following(20 more words not shown)

Reading the passage

Each religion has an account of creation supported by its own sacred text. Simply quoting those texts won't settle the dispute; the participants need to examine the authority of their support.

What we’re looking for

My starting prediction is another disagreement where the grounds for the competing views matter. We'll need to check how closely each example matches, since disagreement alone won't be enough.

Working the answers

  • A

Investigators have conflicting physical evidence. They may disagree about what it shows while accepting the same kind of evidence. The example doesn't give us the separate authoritative sources used by the religions.

  • B

Likewise, these jurors are weighing competing accounts of the same kind: eyewitness testimony. That is less like the religions' separate foundations for their beliefs.

  • C

The archaeologists have no evidence to verify either claim. The religions each have what they regard as evidence; the difficulty is establishing its authority for the other side.

  • D

This fits our broad starting idea of evidence pointing in different directions. But the curators are considering signs of authenticity and forgery in the same painting. We aren't given different types of evidentiary sources underlying their positions.

  • E
    Correct

This sharpens the match: the historians draw different conclusions about one event from different types of data. Those separate evidentiary bases parallel the religions' respective texts. E gets closer to that relationship than an example that merely gives us conflicting evidence within one shared category.
