Reading the passage
We've already predicted the central idea: damaged farmland can recover faster if we reintroduce native plants and beneficial soil organisms together. The study isn't just telling us that farming caused damage. It investigates how to repair that damage, then recommends a combined approach.
What we’re looking for
Look for both parts of the solution. An answer may describe them more generally than we did, but it still needs the study's practical conclusion.
Working the answers
- ACorrect
Two-pronged means the two parts we identified: native plant seeds and beneficial microorganisms. Both aim to restore biological diversity, and the point of combining them is to accelerate recovery. The answer captures the problem, the method, and its purpose.
- B
Slow, difficult recovery is the problem that motivates the study. It leaves out what the researchers learned about making recovery faster.
- C
This changes the subject to modifying agricultural practices. The land being discussed is coming out of production. The question is how to restore it after the damage, not how to redesign farming that will continue there.
- D
Gradual natural recovery is acknowledged in the opening, but waiting for it isn't the recommendation. The study investigates how to speed it up.
- E
Disease organisms and weeds help explain why restoration is difficult. This states part of the problem and stops before the proposed solution.
