Which one of the following(21 more words not shown)

Reading the passage

The residents enjoy following domestic dramas from day to day, and television serves a function analogous to oral poetry used as a daily journal of interesting events. What does that let us say about these viewers? We should stay with that observed role, rather than invent their future habits.

Working the answers

  • A

Nothing predicts that they will gradually switch their preference to imported programs. The study reports the current popularity of domestic dramas.

  • B

Similar functions don't mean one activity will replace the other. They could continue enjoying both television and oral poetry.

  • C

This may sound plausible, but a shared function doesn't establish how viewing time would change if oral poetry disappeared. We haven't been told that a fixed amount of time is divided between the two, or that television would fill the gap.

  • D

Imported programs are available. Their enjoyment of domestic dramas isn't attributed mainly to a lack of access to imports.

  • E
    Correct

The phrase “an analogous function” supports overlapping reasons for enjoying the two activities. Both can help people follow events of interest. That modest overlap is supported; a forecast that one activity would replace the other isn't.
