Reading the passage
Each account must independently give us enough information to answer the question. Combining a fact from A with a different fact from B wouldn't meet that requirement. I'll check both accounts before accepting a familiar topic.
Working the answers
- A
A dates the arrival to the early 1800s. B supplies no arrival date.
- B
A doesn't discuss literature about hunters' potential benefits. B's economic discussion can't fill that gap in A.
- C
Neither account identifies an issue on which hunters and farmers agree. References to hunting revenue don't give us those two groups' views.
- D
Only B identifies the canvasback. A's general discussion of endangered animals doesn't tell us this particular bird's status.
- ECorrect
Both identify wetlands. A describes the weed spreading across North America's “midlatitude wetlands”; B places the controversy in “the wetlands of North America.” Each gives us a type of affected terrain.
