Faculty researchers, particularly in scientific, engineering, and medical(465 more words not shown)

Which one of the following(15 more words not shown)

Reading the passage

Most major institutions seek to maximize their own ownership and profits. That's the writer's clear assessment. We need that financial priority, not a stronger judgment about legality, morality, or the purpose of universities.

Working the answers

  • A
    Correct

The third paragraph says institutions act to secure as much ownership and as large a share of profits as possible. Their policies serve their financial interests.

  • B

The writer doesn't define the mission of a university or say these policies violate it.

  • C

We're not told that the policies have little effect on faculty research. The warning that researchers may leave certainly doesn't establish that reassuring conclusion.

  • D

A possible problem with retaining researchers isn't proof that these policies invariably harm research motivation. We don't get that universal claim.

  • E

The legal basis is described as uncertain, and the institutions may be overreaching. That falls short of a finding that their policies are illegal or immoral.
