Reading the passage
We already predicted the main point: Native American communities have legal routes for protecting ancestral remains and burial artifacts, provided they can establish standing. The opening explains who can bring a claim; the later paragraphs show how existing property rules can help.
What we’re looking for
This primary-purpose question asks for the question that whole explanation answers. We want a version of “What legal options are available?” rather than a proposal to improve the law or a detail about just one route.
Working the answers
- A
“Enhanced” asks how protection should be improved. The text explains existing legal options; it doesn't offer a reform plan.
- B
A grave's age and connection to a community do affect standing, but that's only part of paragraph 1. This leaves out the later explanations of abandonment and communal ownership.
- CCorrect
This covers the legal options in our prediction. The opening describes remedies that may “prohibit or regulate” excavation and display; the later paragraphs explain legal support for recovering artifacts. Protection includes preventing interference as well as seeking the return of objects already removed.
- D
We learn what courts have recognized, not why they are concerned. The opening gives the communities' spiritual objection, not the courts' motives.
- E
The focus is rights concerning remains and artifacts, not how to acquire the land containing them. Land ownership is one basis for standing, but the text doesn't explain how to obtain that ownership.
