Reading the passage
One person, two art forms. A considers Welty's fiction against the background of her personal life. B turns to her photography and connects it with her fiction. We want that relationship in a new setting.
What we’re looking for
Keep the roles straight: the first account connects the artist's experience with one kind of work; the second connects another kind of that same artist's work with the first.
Working the answers
- A
Narrating a program about architecture is not the same as having one's own life and work examined. The second program discusses influences on the architect's buildings, not a second body of his own art in relation to those buildings.
- B
Neither account is about Welty collaborating with other people. The first program's relationship with engineers and planners does not fit.
- C
Our pair does not present a debate among scholars or artists' responses to a critic. Both writers examine Welty's work directly.
- D
The second program stays with building designs. B moves to a different art form—photography—so the relationship is missing that change of medium.
- ECorrect
Personal experiences and buildings match A's relationship between Welty's life and fiction. Sculptures and buildings match B's relationship between her photography and fiction. The second program connects two forms of work by the same artist, preserving both halves of our prediction.
