A recent worldwide decline of ocean fishery stocks(470 more words not shown)

Which one of the following(22 more words not shown)

Reading the passage

What pressure are these experts hoping to relieve? People are catching wild fish, and the hope is that farmed fish can take their place. If people obtain fish from farms instead, fewer fish need to be taken from the ocean. The idea concerns where the fish come from, not necessarily how much fish people want to eat.

Working the answers

  • A

Farms could make up for a shortage without reducing wild catches at all. Supplying additional food and reducing the pressure of fishing are different things. This phrase describes the latter.

  • B

The phrase isn't about giving fishers another source of income. It is about reducing the demand placed on wild fish populations.

  • C
    Correct

Fewer wild fish being caught is what would give ocean stocks a chance to recover. That is the connection between relieving pressure and restoring populations in the sentence.

  • D

Lower earnings could help explain why fishing decreases, as the final paragraph's price example shows. But reduced income is an economic route to the desired change, not what relieving pressure on the fish populations means.

  • E

People could keep eating just as much fish while switching from wild-caught to farmed varieties. We don't need an overall reduction in demand for fish products; we need less reliance on the ocean catch.
