Reading the passage
Go to the explicit comparison in the final paragraph. In many arts, a reproduction is not treated as the work itself. Film is different: under ideal conditions, another print is another instance of the same work.
What we’re looking for
That's the distinction we want. Don't replace it with a plausible comparison about who controls an artwork or how easily it can be damaged. The author has already supplied a direct answer.
Working the answers
- A
We aren't told that the public relies on professional criticism more for film than for other arts. The presence of film critics in the discussion doesn't establish a difference in public reliance.
- BCorrect
The author calls film “an exactly reproducible art form” and says each print can be an additional realization of the same artwork (paragraph 4). Multiple copies can therefore count as instances of the same artwork, unlike the reproductions of other arts described here.
- C
Environmental damage and aging aren't the basis of the comparison. The alterations discussed include dubbing, commercials, and changes in presentation. We shouldn't substitute a separate concern about how physical objects deteriorate.
- D
The examples may make us think about filmmakers losing control, but the author doesn't compare their control with that of other artists. A related idea isn't enough when the question asks for the distinction actually drawn.
- E
The author doesn't rank the complexity of providing public access to different arts. The comparison concerns what a copy is, not how difficult it is to get that copy to an audience.
