Along with Egypt and Sumer, the third major(455 more words not shown)

Which one of the following(14 more words not shown)

Reading the passage

This is a NOT question: four characteristics are stated, and we need the one that isn't. Keep the concrete picture in mind—large settlements with planned streets, sewers, agriculture, and trade—then check the relevant locations. A later movement out of the cities shouldn't be confused with the way people generally lived throughout the civilization's history.

Working the answers

  • A

Cited. The first paragraph calls it the “largest ancient urban civilization” and compares its size with Egypt's. This is part of the opening description, so it cannot be our exception.

  • B

Cited. The third paragraph says the people were the first to cultivate rice and cotton. That directly establishes rice cultivation.

  • C
    Correct

The writer describes people living in cities, not a generally nomadic population. The proposed relocation during the decline is a later response to disruption; it doesn't establish that moving from place to place was their ordinary way of life.

  • D

Cited. The third paragraph calls the civilization one of the ancient world's top traders, then supports that claim with weights found at harbors and Sumerian records.

  • E

Cited. The first paragraph names the three present-day countries: Pakistan, Afghanistan, and India. The ancient civilization extended across parts of their current territories.
