Reading the passage
Separate two things: having a legal protection available and choosing to use it. Comedians formally have copyright protection, but A gives us reasons they rarely sue. Chefs potentially have trade-secrecy protection, but B says only that they seldom use it.
What we’re looking for
The question asks what A answers that B leaves unanswered. That difference in explanation matters more than the fact that both groups turn to social norms.
Working the answers
- A
B directly addresses sharing secrets with a colleague: the recipient may not pass them on without permission. That lets a chef disclose information without abandoning control over further disclosure. This therefore cannot be a question answered only by A.
- BCorrect
A explains the decision: enforcing copyright is prohibitively expensive, and winning is difficult and uncertain. A comedian could pay the cost and still get no remedy. B reports that trade-secrecy protection is available but seldom used; it does not explain why chefs forgo it.
- C
B addresses patent law by saying recipes are rarely patentable. A discusses copyright, not how much patent protection comedians can obtain. This does not fit the required A-but-not-B direction.
- D
Both identify the relevant creative work. For comedians, it is jokes and routines; for chefs, it is recipes.
- E
Both describe norms governing the use of others' work. A explains comedians' ownership and control of jokes; B lists the restrictions on copying and sharing recipe information. The question is not unique to A.
