Reading the argument
If people can't copy the games anymore, will they buy them or just stop playing?
Some players might enjoy these games mainly because they're free. Blocking illegal copies wouldn't automatically turn those players into paying customers. The president needs a reason to expect substantial new purchases, not merely fewer usable copies.
What we’re looking for
For a strengthener, I'd want evidence that people like the games enough to pay when the free option disappears. The new protection has to change what potential customers do. The existence of a piracy problem doesn't tell us how players will respond when copied games stop working.
Working the answers
- A
Needing more sales isn't evidence of getting more sales. The company might have spent millions on a feature that customers respond to by abandoning its games. A explains why the president wants the prediction to come true, not why we should expect it to come true.
- B
A shrinking market share doesn't establish that the games are bad or that sales have fallen; the overall market is growing. More importantly, these past market figures don't tell us how buyers will respond to the new protection. We still need the connection between blocking copies and increasing purchases.
- CCorrect
The protection effectively turns a copied game into a free trial. People can play long enough to enjoy it, but then they lose access just when most have decided they want the game. Buying a legitimate copy offers a way to keep playing. That supplies a concrete reason for expecting the new feature to convert some people who copy games into customers.
- D
Favorable reviews could make people interested in the games, including people who copy them. But interest doesn't settle willingness to pay. Someone might read an excellent review, download the game for free, and move on when free access ends. C connects the protection itself with a stronger desire to obtain the game.
- E
This tells us Ditalgame has more copying than its main competitors. We already know its games are widely copied. The unanswered question is what happens after the new protection is introduced: do those players purchase the game or leave? A comparison of copying rates doesn't answer that question.
