Reading the passage
We've already predicted the main point: the familiar association of multipolarity with stability and bipolarity with conflict needs another look. The later examples challenge that contrast. I want an answer about reassessing it, not just a description of Europe or one historical event.
Working the answers
- A
This prescribes a new bipolar system as the only way to preserve peace. The writer calls for reconsidering the theories, not adopting this necessary policy solution.
- B
We aren't told that all international systems eventually collapse. The discussion questions assumptions about two kinds of systems; it doesn't declare every arrangement doomed.
- C
Europe's emerging multipolarity sets up the problem, but the writer stresses why its effects may differ from those of the Concert of Europe. Describing a strong resemblance misses that challenge.
- D
The World War II connection supports the broader reassessment. It isn't the whole point, and saying multipolarity is incompatible with a stable modern Europe is stronger than the warning that it may reduce security.
- ECorrect
This states the two assumptions and the need to reconsider them in light of post–Cold War conditions. It captures what the historical comparisons and discussion of modern weapons are being used to establish.
