Passage A(220 more words not shown)

Passage B(273 more words not shown)

Which one of the following(22 more words not shown)

Reading the passage

We need evidence mentioned in both accounts, and it must support the usual carbohydrate-and-decay relationship. An interesting exception or a mechanism discussed in only one account won't satisfy both parts of the question.

Working the answers

  • A

A mentions processed acorn flour, but B doesn't make that same observation about processed foods. Its discussion of starchy, sticky foods isn't automatically a discussion of processing.

  • B
    Correct

A gives the Sioux sample with almost no decay alongside the higher-decay maize-dependent sample. B states that decay is “uncommon in pre-agricultural populations.” Both use low decay among populations less dependent on agricultural staples as evidence for the usual relationship.

  • C

B discusses fiber and grit; A doesn't. This fails the both-accounts requirement.

  • D

A discusses wild foods and decay, but not their effect on tooth wear. B's separate discussion of wear doesn't give us the same evidence in both.

  • E

B introduces a broader claim about declining health. A focuses on dental decay, so overall human health isn't the evidence both supply.
